GERMANTOWN ACADEMY – ATHLETIC COMPLEX

“The process of working with Mid-Atlantic sports through the planning and implementation couldn’t have been better. It goes back to creativity and flexibility as well as hard work..” – JIM CONNOR, HEAD OF SCHOOL

TRADITION ENHANCED

Germantown Academy’s sensitive landscape and adjacency to the Wissahickon Creek presented a challenge to many, until Mid-Atlantic Sports Construction was engaged and envisioned the setting as an opportunity. Located in a flood plain, Germantown Academy needed to address much more then a new sports facility.

Mid-Atlantic Sports Construction leveraged their concept and design experience during the process of reorganizing the complex. They fulfilled the need to detail both synthetic and natural turf playing fields as well as track, tennis, stadium and support building requirements while respecting nature. Mid-Atlantic Sports Construction approach was to embrace and enhance Germantown Academy’s natural site features allowed the landscape and preserve to be sustained through the newly designed and naturally irrigated ecosystem.

Even after the roughest storms, condition of the fields remaining pristine and sports schedules are consistently accommodated. The water has not been a burden, but rather an opportunity to learn as the newly created ecosystem has been integrated into the school’s science classes.

“They are a group that can take you from pre-construction through post-construction and that was one of the biggest factors,” said Debbie Schulman, Facilities Coordinator.
